What’s involved with being on the Committee?

What is the Committee?

The Committee is made up of:

  • Chair
  • Secretary
  • Membership Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Events Co-ordinator
  • Committee Members

The SIGMA Presidents are also members of the Committee.

Any Committee Member can stand for any of the main posts at the AGM.

There is no limit as to how long a person can remain in post.

If I join the committee what would I have to do?

As a Committee Member you will be involved with the decisions in regard to the running of SIGMA.  If you have a specific skill or contacts that benefits the club, then you may be utilised in that way.

When are Committee Meetings held and how/where?

Committee meetings are held approximately every 2 months.  Currently they are held via Zoom.

What would I need to do on a club night/observing session?

There are various things that need done before a club meeting can take place.  As a Committee Member or Office Bearer you may

  • be responsible for collecting/returning the Hall key
  • collect the Speaker from the Train Station and take to their accommodation on the Friday and/or collect from their accommodation to the Train Station on the Saturday
  • attend the meal with the Speaker in advance of the meeting
  • take the Speaker to the meeting and/or back to their accommodation
  • help setup the hall for the meeting and/or tidy up after the meeting
  • help with teas/coffees at the meeting
  • give the Vote of Thanks after the Speaker’s talk
  • observing sessions can only take place with a minimum of 2 people to run it – you could volunteer to be one of them when possible

Who does what of the above is decided in advance at the Committee Meeting.

Not all Committee Members may be available every month, so with more Committee Members it helps spread the load.

I’m still not sure about joining the Committee, but want to help the club

You don’t have to be a Committee Member to help the club.  Things you could help with include

  • helping setup the hall for the meeting and/or tidying up after the meeting
  • helping with teas/coffees at the meeting
  • observing sessions can only take place with a minimum of 2 people to run it – you could volunteer to be one of them when possible
